Woman Arrested After Hitting Two Shops in Daring Ksh196,000 Heist

A woman has been charged with stealing Ksh196,000 from two mobile money agents in Fedha Estate area of Nairobi, along the Outer Ring Road.
According to court documents, the incident took place on June 17, 2025, when the main suspect liaised with her accomplices, who are still at large, to defraud the two agents.
Court records state that the woman allegedly used fake documents to steal Ksh99,000 from one agent, and then used the same method to con another agent out of Ksh97,000.
The prosecution revealed, contrary to the law, she was able to use a fake ID registered in 2021 to carry out the fraudulent transactions.
“The suspects were able to use another person’s ID that was registered in 2021, which is contrary to the law, on June 17, 2025,” the prosecution stated.
The suspect was arrested on August 22, 2025, and has been charged under Section 268(1) as read with Section 275 of the Penal Code.
Chief Magistrate Beatrice Kimemia granted the suspect cash bail of Ksh100,000 while she awaits trial.
This incident follows the recent uncovering of a similar fraudulent scheme in Kisii involving a gang of female fraudsters with links to Nairobi.
In this case, the suspect was accused of distracting a young shop attendant while using the attendant’s phone to carry out a fraudulent float transfer.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has noted that these are common tactics used by criminal rings.
“Following numerous complaints reported by mobile money shop attendants whose floats have been swept clean through fraudulent tricks by a notorious criminal ring operating across counties, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau detectives, jointly with the Operation Action Team, have today rounded up five suspects,” the DCI stated.
Detectives explained that fraudsters often scout shops and exploit less experienced attendants by using distractions to carry out their schemes more easily.
Phone signal data from the Kisii incident helped the police to locate one of the suspects in the Kahawa area of Nairobi.
