TSC to Pay Interns Ksh20,000 in Latest Recruitment Drive

The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) has announced24,000 internship vacancies for Junior school teachers.
In a public notice on Tuesday, August 26, the service announced that applications for the position must be submitted via the commission’s portal before Monday, September 9. TSC reiterated that no manual applications would be accepted.
To qualify for the internships, which are mainly targeting qualified and registered teachers who are currently unemployed, one must be a Kenyan citizen, have a diploma in education with a minimum mean grade of C+ and at least C+ in two teaching subjects in KCSE.
According to the commission, successful candidates will be posted to junior schools across the country for a period of one year and will earn a monthly stipend of Ksh20,000, which will be subject to deductions where applicable.
“The Teacher Internship Programme is a one (1) year programme meant to equip and sustain the competencies of persons entering the teaching service,” TSC stated.
“The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching, and exposure to practical teaching experience,” TSC stated.
During the application, individuals will be required to present their original academic and professional certificates. Additionally, individuals will be required to have personal accident insurance cover, which will cover personal risks during the internship.
During the verification process, applicants will be required to provide copies of the Teacher Registration Certificate, National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable), National Identity Card (ID) or Passport, Two colour passport-size photographs, and a copy of the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN).
TSC, which has cautioned individuals against filling more than one application form, has noted that successful candidates shall be posted to any junior school in the sub-county where they were interviewed or any part of the county where vacancies exist.
“Successful individuals shall be required to teach various learning areas under the Junior school curriculum,” TSC stated.
The internship will provide mentorship, coaching, and exposure to practical classroom experience, so as to equip the teachers with skills that will help them thrive after entering the teaching service, according to TSC.
TSC has noted that the application process is free of charge, stressing that applicants should be aware of scammerspurporting to be recruitment agents from the commission.
“Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office or Teachers Service Commission headquarters through the following telephone lines: Director Staffing (0302893193) and Deputy Director Staffing (0202892131) or write to the Commission through the email address dirstaffing@tsc.go.ke,” it stated.
