Since then, the video has gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage, especially since no one intervened to protect the woman, who has since been identified as Bella Comedy.
Among those who reacted to the assault was Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who directed the suspect, a popular social media influencer, to surrender to the police station.
“The assault on Bella Comedy… is concerning. Violence against women is unacceptable… Surrender yourself to the nearest police station,” part of the statement read.
The Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot also condemned the incident, asserting that her ministry did not condoneany act of violence, harassment or assault on women and girls.
Stating that it was a direct violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, she confirmed that the Gender Ministry had kicked off the
“I wish to assure the survivor of this incident, and the public at large, that the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services is working closely with the relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure this matter is investigated expeditiously,” she stated.
“The perpetrators will be held fully accountable under the law.”
In the now viral video, the perpetrator is seen holding Bella by the hair and punching her on her belly as she struggles to wiggle herself out of the grip.
Meanwhile, onlookers could be seen staring on without taking any action despite a woman’s voice being heard asking why the men were not intervening to save her from the assault.
Reportedly, the man had accused Bella of soiling her name online by sharing a story about an alleged child he had born out of wedlock.
Speaking during a TikTok live session after the attack, the victim decried the assault, claiming that she was still hurting physically and was afraid her uterus had been damaged.
“You said that I have soiled your name online, but did you report me? You should have reported me if that was so. Why are you beating me? How many people have reposted your story? Am I the only one?” she quipped
“I have not even posted anything about that child. My content is that I am doing it after it trends. I cover trending things only.”
She also shared that she was awaiting a P3 form so that she could go to a hospital.
