Ruto Promises Additional Thank You Package to Harambee Stars Despite CHAN Exit

President William Ruto has promised to give Harambee Stars an additional thank-you package after they bowed out of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024).
Speaking to the Stars after the match on Friday, August 22, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki conveyed a message on behalf of the President and assured the boys that the President and the nation were proud of them for the effort and unity they brought to the country during the matches.
‘’Forget about the motivation and the other things in between, the president has said he wants to build on what you have brought to our country, the honor, unity, and the pride, and he will be reaching out to you through the leadership and the Ministry to give you a thank you,’’ Kindiki said.
The president has been supportive of the National team since the tournament began,giving and issuing rewards to them for their performances.
In an official statement, President Ruto, who is currently in Japan, thanked the team for wrestling valiantly to the very end.
‘’We had a remarkable run. Harambee Stars have silenced doubters, lifted the spirit of a nation, and reminded us that when Kenyans play with courage, confidence, and determination, nothing is impossible,’’ Ruto said.
Despite bowing out of the match, Kenyans and leaders have congratulated the Harambee Stars players for their resilience and exemplary performance.
Reacting to the results, ODM leader Raila Odinga said, ‘’Hongera Harambee Stars for a good display of football. You’ve managed to unite and make Kenya proud of you.’’
On his part, DP Kithure Kindiki also congratulated the team and urged them to keep the momentum in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.
‘’We congratulate you on behalf of all the fans. Although we have lost, I can assure you that you have made history. We have not had such pride as we have with you today,’’ Kindiki said.
Sports CS Salim Mvurya said, ‘’Though the journey ends here, you walk away as winners, proving our resilience, our heart, and our unyielding belief that we belong at the very top. This moment is not an ending, but the beginning of a brighter future for Kenyan football.’’
Other leaders like Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also congratulated the team, and reminded them that the nation was proud of them.
Meanwhile, President Ruto has asked Kenyans to continue filling the stadiums despite Kenya’s exit from the tournamentsince Kenya remains to be a co-host.
‘’Though we exit the tournament, we remain the proud co-hosts of the historic Pamoja CHAN. Let us continue to fill Kasarani with cheer, energy, pride, and love for the game — all the way to the final whistle,’’ the President said.
