Ruto Allies Hit Back at Uhuru Over Govt Criticism

Leaders allied to President William Ruto, led by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, have hit back at former President Uhuru Kenyatta over his criticism of Ruto’s administration.
The leaders termed Kenyatta’s critique as a case of the pot calling the kettle black, noting that his policies and leadership had been detrimental to the economy and peace of the country.
Speaking on Saturday, September 27, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei went ahead to claim that the former President risked having his retirement perks cut down over criticising Ruto.
According to Cherargei, Uhuru was contravening the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act, which was against former Presidents re-entering active politics after retirement.
“We passed a law that resulted in former President Uhuru getting a pension upon his retirement. If he is to return to active politics, we will remove those retirement benefits, because it now looks like he is going to make a return. This will be against the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act,” he noted.
On his part, Kindiki took issue with Kenyatta’s assertion that Ruto had scrapped Linda Mama, leading to maternal healthcare being endangered.
In response to the former President, Kindiki termed Uhuru’s claims as dishonest, adding that the program had instead been expanded to accommodate larger groups of citizens, and not been scrapped entirely.
“Those correcting this government, those who want the government to perform better, must correct us with facts,” Kindiki stated.
“Initially, the Linda Mama program was only concentrating on the health of pregnant women. Today, under SHA, the universal healthcare program, is protecting the pregnant woman, young people, and the father as well,” Kindiki noted.
Other Ruto-allied Members of Parliament argued that Ruto had made numerous gains, such as reducing the cost of basic food commodities and initiating development projects across the country.
Uhuru, who was speaking at Jubilee’s National Delegates Conference, criticised President Ruto’s administrationfor reportedly using the security agencies to harm Kenyans instead of protecting them.
Uhurunoted that while his administration invested heavily in security infrastructure, the current administration was using the same security apparatus to instil fear among Kenyans.
His address caused ripples in government, especially after the former President was largely seen to be neutral on political affairs in the country.
