Rongai Bus Full of Passengers Plunges Into Ditch

Motorists heading to Nairobi via Magadi Road on Monday morning experienced a heavy traffic jam after a passenger bus plunged into a ditch near the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) bus stop.
The bus, identified as one of the Kanash fleet operating in Rongai, reportedly veered off the road while overlapping, before overturning and landing in the ditch.
Witnesses said the incident happened at a slope along the road, a common accident hotspot.
Emergency teams responded quickly, and the bus was eventually towed from the scene. However, the recovery efforts significantly hindered traffic flow for hours.
“It’s one of the three Kanash buses. The newest one got into an accident this morning and overturned along Magadi Road. I hope there are no casualties,” a concerned witness shared on social media.
As of the time of publishing, no injuries or fatalities had been officially confirmed, though eyewitness reports suggest the bus was full at the time of the accident.
The bus management is yet to issue an official statement on the cause of theaccident or whether any passengers were injured.
In September last year, eight people lost their lives after a 32-seater bus they were travelling in plunged into the Mbagathi River in the Gataka area.
The accident occurred along the road connecting Karen and Ongata Rongai, near the Cooperative University of Kenya.
The bus, operated by Naboka Sacco, was en route to Nairobi from Gataka when the driver, who was among those killed, lost control and veered off the road.
Authorities confirmed that six people died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Witnesses reported that thedriver had slowed down at the speed bumps, but as he attempted to accelerate and continue the journey, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into the river.
