Protesting Boda Boda Riders Block Highway After Colleague Killed

Protests paralysed the Marsabit–Isiolo highway after boda boda riders took to the streets to demand justice for a colleague who was found murdered.
The victim was reportedly lured by two assailants who posed as customers before fatally stabbing him multiple times.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, September 9, in Manyatta Ginda, Saku Sub-county.
Police were deployed to the area to disperse the protesters and restore order.
In a video obtained byKenyans.co.ke,the riders were seen using stones to block the road and setting tires on fire.
Police were also seen attempting to clear the highway to allow motorists to pass. Authorities had to intervene to restore order in the region by using tear gas to disperse the riders.
The brutal killing sparked anger among the boda boda community who say they are frustrated with the rising insecurity in the area that has made their trade dangerous.
The Saku incident occurred just days after previous attacks on boda boda riders. On September 7, a police officer was arrested for fatally shooting two boda boda operators in a bizarre case of road rage.
The Sunday morning incidentsaw two riders lose their lives after attempting to confront the officerwho was involved in an accident moments earlier.
Witnesses said that the officer who was driving an Audi rear-ended a motorbike that had a pillion passenger.
The officer reportedly attempted to drive away but eventually stopped after getting caught in minor traffic, allowing other boda boda operators to catch up with him.
Moments later, during a confrontation at, the police officer allegedly brandished his firearm and shot at the victims, killing both on the spot.
On September 1,just days before the Thika shooting, a Super Metro bus was set on fire by boda boda operators after it was involved in an accident that killed one of their colleagues along the Thika Superhighway.
