Panic as Fire Breaks Out Near Hospital in Nairobi

Residents in Huruma are counting losses after a fire broke out in the area on Saturday night, August 10.
Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch revealed that the fire broke out at Johnsaga, adjacent to Jumia Hospital, at approximately 9pm.
Response teams, including fire engines from the Kenya Red Cross, were dispatched to the area to contain the fire.
“Incident alert at 9pm: A fire incident has been reported at Johnsaga next to Jumia Hospital in Huruma, Nairobi,” the Kenya Red Cross stated.
“Response teams are at the scene, working alongside community members to contain the fire.”
Videos seen byKenyans.co.keshowed the bright orange flames emanating from nearby buildings, but the extent of the damage is yet to be determined.
Reportedly, the fire was caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder in the area, although no casualties have been reported at the time of the publication of this article.
This comes just a few months after another fire in Nairobi’s Kibra estate left more than 100 families homeless after it razed their houses.
On the night of June 11, the fire took down stalls, and tradersand homeowners bore the biggest brunt of the incident after the fire spread to their units, leaving them counting losses.
Speaking after visiting the area alongside the area MP Peter Orero, the Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku promised to release emergency aid to support them.
”Incidents of fires have become very common in informal settlements, especially in Nairobi. The government is committed to ending these tragedies to protect the lives and property of citizens,” Ruku said.
”Early this morning, I visited Mukungu village in Kibra, Nairobi, to support victims of a fire that left several families homeless. The government will provide emergency relief aid to the families to assist them in getting their lives back on track.”
