Motorists Warned of Traffic Disruptions Ahead of Sunday CHAN Matches

Nairobi motorists have been advised to expect temporary road closures and traffic diversions this Sunday, August 17, 2025, as the city hosts the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) at Moi International SportsCentre in Kasarani.
In a statement, Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir said that Aerodrome Road will be closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.
In addition, one lane of Lang’ata Road between Madaraka Roundabout and Lusaka Roundabout will be closed, while one lane of Mombasa Road between Lusaka and Bunyala Roundabouts will also be affected.
The authority, however other alternative routes to ease movement during the game period.
Motorists coming from Mombasa Road heading to the CBD are advised to use Likoni Road through Enterprise Road or the Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni.
Those using Lang’ata Road towards the CBD should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road through Mbagathi Roundabout.
Traffic along theThika Superhighway will also be affected.Vehicles from the CBD heading to Thika should use Kiambu Road at Exit 4, with a roadblock set at Muthaiga.
Motorists from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru heading to the city centre are advised to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, with another roadblock at Ruiru Interchange.
Those from Githurai to the CBD should use the Githurai 44–Kiambu Road route.
Meanwhile, fans heading to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, without access passes are required to use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8.
The police assured thatextra officers will be deployed along the affected routesto guide traffic and ensure smooth flow.
They urged all motorists to cooperate with officers and warned that stern action would be taken against anyone breaking traffic rules.
