MCAs Injured, Rushed to Hospital in Kericho Assembly Chaos

Three Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) were injured and rushed to hospital when chaos erupted during the impeachment proceedings of Kericho Governor Erick Mutai.
The chaos broke out on August 15 in the Kericho County Assembly immediately after the Speaker announced the results of the impeachment vote, confirming that Governor Mutai had been impeached for a second time.
A video obtained byKenyans.co.kecaptured the shocking turn of events, showing a tense political session descending into a physical brawl.
The footage reveals rival factions of MCAs exchanging blows, with the sounds of screaming filling the chamber as frustration and anger boiled over. At one point, items were seen being hurled through the air.
In those moments of chaos, some of the MCAs were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The motion to remove the governor, which was moved by Sigowet MCA Kiprotich Rogony, received overwhelming support, with 33 MCAs voting in favor of the impeachment.
While the specific reasons for the impeachment and the full details of the chaos are still emerging, the injured MCAs were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.
A total of 33 out of 47 MCAs voted to remove Governor Mutai from office, while 14 voted to keep him. The electronic vote was more than the two-thirds needed to pass the motion.
This is different from his last impeachment, where he was saved by the Senate even though 31 MCAs had voted against him.
After the vote, the Assembly Speaker said the case will now go to the Senate. The governor will be able to defend himself there.
If the Senate agrees with the impeachment, he will be permanently removed from his job. If not, he will stay in office.
The day started with a lot of tension. There was an attempt to burn the county assembly building and people were fighting in the streets. Because of this, a lot of police were sent to keep the peace before the meeting began.
