KTN Anchor Zubeidah Quits After 18 Years
Veteran broadcast journalist Zubeidah Kananu Koome has left KTN after 18 years with the station.
In her farewell statement on Thursday, September 25, 2025, Zubeidah announced that she would be moving on to a new chapter in her career.
In a statement announcing her departure, she thanked Standard Media Group, the station’s owner, and said that she had gained invaluable experience in the industry during her 18 years at Standard Group.
“After 18 incredible years at Standard Group PLC, a chapter that has shaped my journey as a journalist, news anchor and editor, I am stepping into a new season.”
“These years have been filled with lessons, growth, challenges and friendships I will forever treasure. I am deeply grateful to colleagues, mentors and friends who have worked this path with me,” she said.
Zubeida said that she will continue serving asthe president of the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG). However, she did not disclose where she will be going next.
”While I close this chapter, my commitment to journalism and to serving our fraternity through the Kenya Editors Guild remains stronger than ever. The story continues and together we will keep shaping the future of media,” she added.
Koome joined Standard Group KTN in 2007 as an intern for a three-month contract. She began her career covering the 2007 December general election.
After the end of her three-month contract, she earned a one-year contract through 2008, followed by a formal employment contract in 2009.
She handled several shows at the station including Jukwaa la KTN, Kioo cha Hoja, Dira ya Wiki among others.
Koome was electedfirst female President of the Kenya Editors Guild in May 2023.
