KDF Promotes CHAN Star After Stellar Performance

The Ulinzi Stars captain, Boniface Muchiri, has been promoted to corporal in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The promotion from senior private was announced by military sources and was officially conferred by Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on August 27, 2025.
General Kahariri praised Muchiri’s discipline and excellence while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF.
The promotion is in recognition of Muchiri’soutstanding performance as a Harambee Stars strikerat the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work, and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments and are confident you will continue to excel,” General Kahariri stated.

In addition to the promotion ceremony, General Kahariri also received an interim report on Ulinzi Stars Football Club’s performance from 2020–2025.
The report, presented by Brigadier Ahmed Saman, examined various aspects of the team, including coaching, player welfare, administrative support, recruitment, and training.
The findings also evaluated the adequacy of training facilities, equipment, and support infrastructure.
Benchmarking against successful clubs was incorporated to identify best practices, while short- and long-term measures were proposed to improve competitiveness and strengthen management.
General Kahariri assured that KDF leadership will fully support the implementation of the recommendations.
He stressed that Ulinzi Stars must remain competitive while upholding the discipline and values of the Kenya Defence Forces.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, Director Personnel and Logistics Major General Edward Rugendo, senior officers, service members, and members of Ulinzi Stars FC.
