KCAA Announces Immediate Shutdown of Key Operations

All licensing activities for aviation personnel, including pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, air traffic controllers, and flight dispatchers, have been suspended effective Friday, August 22, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has announced.
In an official statement, KCAA revealed that it had shut down its Personnel Licensing (PEL) Department for a period of 30 days.
According to KCAA, the shutdown is to facilitate a major transition to a fullyautomated licensing system.
‘’KCAA) wishes to inform stakeholders that the Authority has, with immediate effect, temporarily suspended operations of the Personnel Licensing (PEL) Department for a period of 30 days to facilitate the transition to a fully automated licensing system,’’ the statement read in part.
According to KCAA, they are transitioning to digital in a move to eliminate duplication, improve efficiency, and provide applicants with a faster and seamless service experience.
KCAA explained that the overhaul will include the introduction of a computer-based examination system designed to increase transparency and reliability in the licensing process.
Further, KCAA has informed stakeholders that they were aware that the suspension would warrant a lot of questions, and to ensure smooth operations during this period, they have curated an operational feedback system.
‘’KCAA is mindful that this temporary suspension may cause concern, and has established a dedicated feedback channel to be shared early next week for Stakeholders to input their recommendations, past complaints, noted illegalities, irregularities, and other concerns,’’ the statement continued.
The platform will allow users to anonymously submit recommendations, past complaints, and reports of irregularities related to the licensing process.
The PEL department is a key operational branch that deals with Licensing and renewal of credentials, scheduling, and sitting for examinations, and Certification of training and qualifications.
KCAA reiterated its commitment to maintainingthe highest standards of aviation trainingand licensing, ensuring continuity, trust, and the growth of a safe, efficient, and dynamic aviation sector.
