Huge Fire Erupts in Tassia Estate; Gas Cylinders Explode

A fire was reported in Tassia Estate in Embakasi on the evening of Tuesday, August 26.
In images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the fire appeared to have stemmed from one of the informal housing units in the estate before spreading to other houses.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, although preliminary reports suggest it may have stemmed from a gas explosion.
Kenya Red Cross confirmed the fire incident in a statement, adding that response teams, including the Nairobi fire department, had been deployed to the scene.
No casualties had been reported at the time of publishing, although several hours after the fire broke out, more structures had been completely consumed by the inferno.
The situation was made worse by the fact that the affected structures were made of iron sheets and wood, materials that are highly flammable and quick to ignite.
Attempts by the local community to put out the fire proved futile, as the flamesproved too strong to contain, prompting locals to flee for safety as the structures burned down.
The Tassia area in Embakasi has developed a notorious reputation for fire incidents, some of which have resulted in loss of life in 2025.
A week earlier, on August 18, a seven-month-old baby lost her life after a night inferno razed down several houses.
At the time, neighbours attempted to put out the fire amid a fairly slow response from the fire department, presumably because the inferno took place at night.
Months earlier, in March, a fire broke out in Kwa Kassim, Tassia, leaving at least six people with severe injuries while property of unknown value was also destroyed.
Interestingly, a majority of the fires around the Tassia Area have stemmed from gas explosions, pointing to possible human error which can be avoided.
