How to Check if Your Electricity Bill is Correct

Sometimes, the electricity bill you receive from Kenya Power at the end of the month may seem a little suspicious, either because it is too high or too low.
Even the electricity company acknowledges that customers may sometimes want to confirm that their meter readings match the bill.
For this reason, Kenya Power has created a guideline for post-pay customers to follow toconfirm that they have been sent the correct bill.
“Ever received a zero? Or do you want to confirm if your meter readings match the current bill? Worry no more. Here is our official step-by-step guide on how to handle it,” Kenya Power stated.
1. Send a Picture
The first step is to share a clear picture of your meter reading to Kenya Power’s WhatsApp page, through 0702 977 977.
The image should be clear and clearly show the meter reading and the meter number.
2. Booking
The next step in the verification process is booking your case.
After sending a picture, you will automatically receive a 15-digit reference code for your case will be generated, and then it is up to the company to analyse your case when it gets to it.
3. Site Visit
In some cases, a physical verification on site may be arranged where a Kenya Power representative will come to your residence or place of work and inspect the meter reading.
“If we need to do a physical verification of your meter, a site visit to your premises shall be arranged,” Kenya Power assured.
Barely a month ago,Kenya Power also explained why pre-pay customersmight start getting fewer tokens than they previously did for the same amount of money.
In the statement, the company clarified that tokens were priced based on the average amount of electricity used in a month, which might change after a while.
Basically, those who used the least amount of electricity were priced the cheapest per token, while those with a higher electricity usage paid more per token.
Customers who typically used less than 30 tokens a month are charged Ksh12.23 per unit, those who used between 30 to 100 tokens paidKsh16.45 per unit, and lastly, those who used 101 to 15,000 units each month are charged the highest amount per unit at Ksh19.02.
