Goons Torch County Office

Political tensions in Isiolo escalated on Wednesday, August 27, after part of the County Assembly Clerk’s office was set on fire.
Images and videos obtained byKenyans.co.keshowed the office in flames, just hours after goons invaded the County Assembly chambers and vandalised property.
At the time of publication, it was unclear whether the same individuals were responsible for setting fire to the County Secretary’s office. The extent of the fire damage is also unknown.
This incident occurred shortly after it was revealed that the embattled Isiolo County Assembly Speaker, Mohamed Roba, had been arrested en route to Nairobi.
Authorities revealed that Roba was picked up by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) along Thika Road and taken to Ruaraka Police Station, ending initial speculation that he had been ‘abducted’.
Barely hours after his arrest, on Wednesday morning, a group of unidentified individuals stormed the Assembly chambers in broad daylight, destroying property and rendering the House unable to conduct any proceedings.
The three incidents added fuel to an already volatile political climate in Isiolo, coming just weeks after the County Assembly impeached Governor Abdi Guyo before he was later reinstated by the Senate.
