EACC Addresses Raiding Wetang’ula’s Residence

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is not planning to raid the home of the Speaker of the National Assembly,Kenyans.co.kehas established.
Contrary to viral reports circulating on social media claiming that the Commission was preparing to raid the Speaker’s residence, this publication has confirmed that the reports are false.
EACC officials clarified that the information was baseless and lacked authenticity.
“Ignore the reports. That is fake,” the Commission stated in a phone interview.
Kenyans on social media shared a viral post suggesting that the Commission was in theprocess of raiding his home over recent developments in the country.
This follows President William Ruto’s announcement that the government will apprehend and prosecute all leaders, particularly MPs and Senators, who have been soliciting and receiving bribes to perform their legislative duties.
Speaking on Monday during a joint parliamentary group meeting between the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement party, the visibly angry Head of State read the riot act to lawmakers following reports that a majority of them, particularly at the committee level,had been demanding bribes to influence outcomes.
On Tuesday, tension escalated between the legislature and the executive after the National Assembly paralysed all committee activities in protest over Ruto’s claims that lawmakers jeopardise parliamentary processes by soliciting bribes.
All National Assembly committee sittings scheduled for Tuesday failed to commence, with only the Senate committees meeting with stakeholders continuing, though under protest.
Meanwhile, Speaker Wetang’ula is leading Members of Parliament in a two-day retreat in Mombasa, where legislators are set to review Parliament’s mandate and engage in joint discussions with the Judiciary.
The session brings together PSC Commissioners, members of the Speakers Panel, committee chairs and their deputies, KEWOPA, women representatives from the 47 counties, and a section of legislators from the Budget Committee for a consultative engagement.
It is also aimed at renewing leadership synergy and comity for the effective and responsive discharge of the mandate of the National Assembly.
