Driver Missing After Matatu Overturns on Waiyaki Way

Two sisters were killed in an accident on the Embu–Meru highway on Wednesday evening. They were hit by a speeding car in the Kairungu area while attempting to cross the road. The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
In a separate incident, a fully loaded matatu overturned on Waiyaki Way in Nairobi, causing a massive traffic snarl-up during the morning rush hour on Thursday, August 7.
The crash, which took place near the Cooperation stage,was allegedly caused by a speeding driverwho lost control of the vehicle.
According to a police officer at the scene, the matatu driver’s whereabouts were unclear as they could not immediately confirm whether he had been taken to the hospital or had fled.
The police reported that there were no fatalities in the accident. However, several people were injured. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Waiyaki Way incident occurred just hours aftera fatal incident on the Embu-Meru highwaythat left two sisters dead.
The victims, aged 19 and 13, were killed in a tragic incident that sparked outrage among local residents who demanded swift action from authorities.
The sisters were walking home with their mother from their farm in Karingari when they were struck by a car as they attempted to cross the busy road.
According to local reports, the driver, who allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident, may have been under the influence of alcohol.
The bodies of the two sisters were taken to Gakwegori Funeral Home.
In a swift response to the public outcry, officers from the Runyenjes police post have reportedly impounded the vehicle.
Unconfirmed reports also suggest that the driver has since been arrested.
