“A road traffic accident involving a PSV matatu and a cargo container has occurred at Kibarani, just after Ug Holdings, Mombasa County,” the statement read in part.
“We are on the ground responding alongside a multi-agency response team.”
Red Cross also confirmed that the scene had been successfully cleared by about 1am.

The accident adds to a barrage of many more accidents that have been plaguing the nation for the past month, leaving dozens dead.
Among the most heart-wrenching ones was the August 8 accident at the Coptic roundabout in Kisumu that left 27 dead. Ironically, the group was leaving a relative’s funeral when the school bus they were travelling in rolled into a ditch.
On August 10, an ENA Coach bus travelling from Nairobi to Migori was involved in a fatal accident in the Mai Mahiu area at around 11pm.
Of the 47 passengers on board and three crew, only two fatalities were reported, including an adultfemale and a minor.
