DCI Obtains New Leads In Fatal Shooting of Lawyer Mbobu Probe
The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, now says that the detectives have obtained new leads into the murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was gunned down on September 8, along Magadi Road in Nairobi.
Speaking on Monday evening during an interview onCitizen TV, the IG said that investigations into the gruesome murder of Mbobu were in advanced stages, with several culprits linked to the lawyer’s murder on the radar.
Kanja noted that he had already directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) to speed up the murder probe of Mbobuand ensure the timely completion of the case.
However, the Police IG declined to provide timelines for the investigations, stating that the detectives required adequate time to fully probe the matter.
According to him, it was too early to commit to the timelines since investigations were still ongoing and no significant arrests had so far been made.
“Investigations are in progress, and I have directed the DCI that we need to move with speed, and that is exactly what he is doing. Currently, we are following very useful leads,” said Kanja.
Adding: “So far, we had initially arrested three people, but they were again cleared by the investigators. We are on a hot trail on some very resourceful trail, and we are going to get the culprits.”
The IG also expressed concerns over the reluctance of Kenyans, particularly witnesses, to provide information that could help in tracing the murder suspects.
Kanja’s sentiments were echoed by DCI DirectorMohamed Amin, who revealed that he had assembled a robust team from the homicide department to expedite the murder probe.
He emphasised that theDCI had arrested three people linked to the murder case. However, the trio were later released but remain persons of interest in the ongoing investigations.
Amin further said that the DCI had already obtained great leads into the killers of lawyer Mbobu but declined to disclose more details of the leads due to the sensitivity of the matter.
“The matter of the deceased advocate is a matter that we are taking very seriously. We have assembled a robust team from our homicide section. As I was coming to this studio, I left my team of detectives sifting through the evidence,” said DCI boss Amin.
“We arrested 3 persons of interest, but after subsequent investigations, they were released. However, apprehending the killers is a matter of top priority for us,” he added.
While providing an update on the progress of the investigations, the DCI boss called on Kenyans to exercise patience as the probe continues.
Meanwhile, sources privy to the ongoing investigations have revealed that the detectives from the DCI homicide department have narrowed down to seven individuals over Mbobu’s shooting along Magadi Road in Nairobi.
Among those being questioned over the lawyer’s murder are the deceased’s family members, staff and close friends. who were in communication with Mbobu moments before his murder.
Others include the Director of a company that was embroiled in a court battle with the late lawyer. The aforementioned are, however, not being considered as suspects.
Sources close to the investigations toldNTVthat the deceased spoke to at least 15 people, including colleagues and friends, on the fateful day.
The detectives also visited the lawyer’s office, where they retrieved documents that are expected to aid in the investigations.
