Ruto is on the Verge of Finishing ODM – Babu Owino Claims
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino now claims that President William Ruto is on a mission to finish the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party before the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking on Wednesday evening during an interview onRamogi TV,the legislator warned that the Head of State was on the verge ofending ODM’s political dominancethrough the broad-based cooperation.
“Ruto is pretending to work with ODM, but deep down, he wants to finish the party from within. Ruto is not working with the ODM party in good spirits,” Babu warned.
Babu noted that while his sentiments could be seen as a retaliation against his own party, he warned that the party needs to tread carefully, particularly in working with Ruto.
In his remarks, the lawmaker called on ODM politicians supporting the current regime to reconsider their move and revert to their oversight role.
He referenced Odinga’s recent statements, in which the former Prime Minister clarified that ODM was an independent party and had the autonomy to field its own candidate in 2027.
Babu reiterated that Odinga’s remarks meant that the party was still in the opposition despite some of its members joining President Ruto’s administration.
“We have been accused of opposing ODM, but Raila recently backed our take. He told us not to immerse ourselves in this thing fully, but some of our brothers have refused to take the advice,” Babu stated.
“In my view, despite ODM being in the broad-based government, they should also balance it by ensuring it maintains its support in the opposition in case of anything,” he added.
During the interview, Owino also noted that he had made peace with the fact that theparty would not endorse his Nairobi gubernatorial ambitionsahead of the 2027 polls.
The lawmaker noted that the ODM party’s preferred candidate was Governor Johnson Sakaja, who, according to Babu, was formally endorsed by Raila himself.
“I am very sure I will not be given the ODM nomination ticket for the gubernatorial race because ODM leaders recently endorsed Sakaja. Against, Raila defended Sakaja from impeachment,” Babu noted.
