KRA Issues 30-Day Deadline in New Notice

The owners of select items in the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper at the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi have been given 30 days to collect their goods, which have been categorised as abandoned, before they can be disposed of.
In an official notice dated August 22, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) revealed that it would dispose of over 100 items on the list, effective 30 days after the notice expired.
The notice cautioned companies to clear and remove the goods from the premises within a month, orrisk them being auctioned.
‘’A notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Inland Container Depot, Nairobi, within thirty (30) days of this notice, they will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA, 2004 including being sold by public auction,’’ the notice read on part.
KRA announced that, if the owners failed to collect their goods, it would organise a public auction from October 6 to 9, selling the abandoned items through its online portal.
Among the items at risk of being auctioned are 20 packages of white refined sugar, each weighing 1,200 kg, and 408 packages of Koudijs broiler concentrate, which were destined for Uganda.
Other items destined for Kenya on the list include household and personal items such as used chairs, gym equipment and used bikes.
These include refrigerator display cabinets, a water treatment plant with reverse osmosis, wooden flooring and metal fittings, tiles, sewing machines, coolers, wooden furniture and used wheelchairs, among others.
KRA has also invited all those interested in buyingthe goods for an open viewing.
‘’Interested buyers may view the goods at specific locations indicated on 2nd October, 2025, and 3rd October, 2025 during office hours,’’ the statement continued.
The announcement comes barely three days after the taxman had warned Kenyans to be vigilant and not fall prey to fake auction announcements purportedly by them.
This is after a fake post alleged that it had invited Kenyans to a public auction of 22 luxury vehicles.
