Kenyans, Others to Pay More to Fly to Tanzania Starting November

The Tanzanian government has introduced a mandatory air travel fee for all foreigners travelling to Tanzania, including Kenyans.
According to the East African newspaper, the government has introduced new passenger facilitation fees for international arrivals and departures, which will come into effect on November 1, 2025.
Set by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), the new prices are $45 (approximately Ksh5,814) for a one-way ticket and $90 (approximately Ksh11,628) for a return ticket.
According to the report, children under two years old will be exempt from paying the fee. Airlines will collect the money when tickets are purchased.
It also stated that if a person cancels their ticket or does not travel, they will get a full refund of the fee.
The TCAA says the new fee will help pay fornew security systems. These systems are called Advanced Passenger Information (API) and Electronic Border Control (eBMC).
They will send passenger information to the government before flights take off. This will help the government decide if a passenger should be allowed to travel to Tanzania.
Airline companies have warned that this new fee could harm the airline industry, which already faces high taxes in Africa.
This new travel fee comes just a month after the Tanzanian government also put new rules on foreigners who want to do business in the country.
“Based on the cost of installing the system, relying only on government financing will not be sustainable. For this reason, we have proposed that the fees collected from passengers during international arrivals will fund the project,” said TCAA.
The new travel fees were introduced barely a month after theTanzanian government placed restrictions on foreigners doing business in the country.
President Suluhu’s administration banned foreign nationals from starting and operating 15 types of businesses.
