The Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called for the compensation of victims of criminal and terror activities in the North Eastern regions.
Speaking in Balambala in Garissa County on Saturday, August 16, Duale claimed that the government should also compensate those who lost their lives in Wagalla and Malka Mari, especially during the previous administration.
Duale, who accused some political leaders, including the Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, of projecting some regions as superior to others, claimed that the compensation of the victimsin the region will ensure that there is equity.
“So many people died during the previous administration, and let me make it clear that if there is compensation, the people who died in the North-Eastern region during the previous administration must be compensated,” Duale said.
“There is no superior region and there is no superior religion here in Kenya, and President William Ruto is becoming a victim of these political shenanigans because he wants to unite the country, because he has brought more empowerment than what other presidents have done,” he added.
Duale, who further accused previous administrations of neglecting the northeastern regions, said that the areas will continue rallying behind the president because he has consistently demonstrated support for them.
“President Ruto has slept in Mandera, yet some people still undermine us because they claim there are criminals here. I want to tell the opposition that the days of entitlement are over,” he said.
Responding to Duale’s statements, former President William Ruto’s senior Economic Advisor, Moses Kuria, warned the CS and other leaders of negatively profiling the Mount Kenya region, a move that he warns mightrevert the country todivisive politics.
Kuria argued that if the leaders have an issue with a particular individual from the community, they should address it to that person rather than the entire community.
Kuria, who further assured that he will be at the forefront of defending the region against such leaders, claimed that the recurrent criticism of the region will, in the end, lead to some dangerous political repercussions.
“Some of us have unapologetically said no to returning this country to the politics of negative ethnicity. Equally, we will vehemently resist Wholesale condemnation and collective punishment of an entire community,” Kuria stated.
“If you have a problem with any individual from the Mt Kenya Community, do not take it out against an entire people. If Mt Kenya people have eaten your goat, let me know, and I will pay you back. Do not drive our backs against the wall. A point of no return may lead to very unintended consequences,” he said.
