IEBC Sets Date for Nationwide By-Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that all pending by-elections will be conducted on November 27, 2025.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, August 8, the electoral commission, led by Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, noted that the by-elections are intended to fill all vacant electoral positions.
“All by-elections will be held on November 27, 2025. The gazettement of the by-elections has been scheduled in two batches,” read part of the IEBC notice.
The first batch includes vacant Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats in the following wards: Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), and Kariobangi North Ward (Nairobi City).
Others listed in the first batch are Kisa East Ward (Kakamega County), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Purko Ward (Kajiado County), and Tembelio (Uasin Gishu).
The second batch includes vacant Senatorial positions in Baringo and Member of Parliament seats in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North and Ugunja Constituencies.
While making the announcement, IEBC urged political parties that intend to participate in the by-elections to submit the names and specimen signatures of the authorised people on or before Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
