Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has urged the government to involve content creators in showcasing government projects, policies, and flagship development.
The Trans Nzoia lawmaker, who is the Senate’s ICT Chair, assured that using content creators, especially those with huge followings, will be critical in empowering them and expanding the country’s digital footprint.
The senator made the remarks during the launch of Konza Technopolis on Thursday, September 11, which he assured would be a vital digital powerhouse in the country.
Konza Technopolis is a 2030 flagship project under the Ministry of ICT, being developed as a science park and an area of innovation for technology.
The park, which is located 60 km from Nairobi, features a 5,000-acre city that also includes green energy projects, affordable housing, and conferencing facilities, among others.
“Let us use content creators to talk about government projects, policies, and Konza to Kenyans, especially the youth. By giving them these tasks, we will not only be empowering them but also spreading to the world what the government is doing,” Chesang said.
“If we want to create jobs for our youths, let us start by creating jobs for our content creators to tell the world and Kenyans what the government is doing, as we also continue working to give jobs to the youths,” he added.
On his part, ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo said that the digital city will catalyse the growth of key sectors in the country, including tourism, investment, and industrialisation.
“Through a whole-of-government approach and strong Public-Private Partnerships, we are working to ensure Konza becomes Africa’s largest Smart City and a global hub for innovation. Konza Technopolis – The Next Frontier for Technology, Tourism, and Investment,” Kabogo stated.
This comes two months after the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) approved the Konza National Drone Corridor, which will bethe first controlled airspace in Kenyathat will be used specifically for drone operations.
According to the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), in a statement on Wednesday, July 9, the corridor will enable the safe execution of long-range drone flights.
The authority said the regulated corridor will also be used by various institutions to test and train drone technologies in the country.
“A dedicated and highly skilled Corridor Operations Coordinator will manage the space, ensuring continuous compliance with regulations, optimising operational efficiency, and maintaining the highest safety standards,” the authority stated.
