Motorists Trapped in Major Traffic Jam at Salgaa

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was among thousands of motorists stranded for hours on Thursday, September 11, after a massive traffic jam brought the Salgaa section of the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway to a standstill.
The gridlock stretched for several kilometres, causing major disruptions to transport along the key northern corridor.
In a statement shared online, a visibly frustrated Khalwale lamented the congestion, which he described as a “perennial nightmare” for commuters. He criticized the government for failing to find a lasting solution to the problem, despite the frequent gridlocks that plague the highway.
“We are stuck here at Salgaa. Kilometres upon kilometres of traffic jam. Who cares, yet leaders have choppers! A dual carriageway is the only answer to this vexing Nairobi to Malava border perennial nightmare,” he said.
The exact cause of the traffic on the highway had not been reported by the time of publication.

Other motorists also shared updates on social media, describing the situation on the busy highway as unbearable.
One user, identified as Ospreys, advised the motorists heading to Eldoret or Kisumu to use alternative routes.
“If you are in Nakuru heading to Eldoret or Kisumu, avoid A104, it’s bad at Salgaa. Use Njoro/Molo or Kabarak-Ravine route,” Ospreys wrote.
This incident came just hours after other motorists were trapped in anotherjam along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway in the Mai Mahiu sectionon the same day.
The motorists were urged to use an alternative route to avoid delays and approach the area with caution.
According to the report, the traffic began in Mai Mahiu in Nakuru beginning from the Mutarakwa towards Nakuru CBD.
“Mai Mahiu traffic is currently stretching from Mutarakwa on the way to the town from Nairobi. Minimal movement from Nairobi and no movement from Naivasha,” the Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA) noted.
