Witness Makes Chilling Revelation in Brian Odhiambo Case

The High Court in Nakuru has heard that the lifeless body of missing fisherman Brian Odhiambo was allegedly last seen on the back of a Land Cruiser belonging to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
While testifying on Monday, September 8, a prosecution witness told Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion that Odhiambo’s motionless body was in the KWS vehicle, adding that the rangers threatened to beat him if he attempted to intervene.
The witness, currently serving a four-year sentence for illegal fishing, testified that on January 19, KWS rangers descended upon him and five other fishermen before ferrying them by boat to Summit, Nakuru.
He further stated that they were ordered to lie down on their stomachs after being arrested for illegal fishing. About an hour later, a green KWS vehicle arrived, and the witness said he saw a motionless man inside.
“I heard them saying that our vehicle, the one that would take us to their base, had arrived. However, at first it was difficult to see it because our visibility was hampered, but then we later saw it when it came closer,” the witness stated.
According to the witness, Odhiambo was dressed in black shorts with white stripes, shirtless, and barefoot.
Moments later, the witness said that a ranger signalled to his colleagues that the man inside the vehicle had died.
“He held him while checking for his pulse, but he did not move. He tried waking him up, but still, there was no movement. It is when he told his colleagues that the man in the vehicle had died. I just heard him say he has died,” noted the witness.
A second witness held in Nyandarua corroborated the story, with both witnesses positively identifying Odhiambo from photographs, pointing outthe six rangers accused of his abduction.
The latest testimony contradicts the account given by a KWS ranger tasked with guarding Odhiambo. The ranger had, on Wednesday, January 29, toldthe court that Odhiambo had escaped from custodyafter jumping out of the KWS vehicle he was held.
Detailing his escape, the ranger stated that Odhiambo had requested to relieve himself while in custody. The ranger explained that it was when he honoured this request that Odhiambo escaped.
Sudi claimed that he attempted to apprehend Odhiambo, but he managed to slip from his grasp. He further dismissed allegations that Brian was assaulted or injured while in their custody.
Meanwhile, the final prosecution witness is set to testify at the scene of Odhiambo’s alleged abduction on November 10, as the case nears its close.
